Names are names, and people are free to do whatever they please.
With that said, I cringe at the names with the X's and I's.
When GW first came out, I tried Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, but, alas, they were already taken. It would have been one of those Novel Names, but I think it would have been awesome. Maybe Anet removes the more famous names from games.

Ahhh I lovelovelove all the misspellings ingame. 'Worriers' and ' Devine Angles' and 'Assasians'... makes me smile every time I see them.
I like that people name themselves things like xXx Naruto xXx, or Ima Pwn Joo, or Secksy Ele Gurl - it's like a nice helpful neon sign that says 'AVOID ME'. People say you can't judge a book by its cover, but ingame I beg to differ.

I don't hate novelty names, I love them...
but I do hate knock-off names and cheap copycats... originality is not expensive.

They are usually the people to be found running in circles, and on the rare occasions they stop doing that they spam emotes.

I used to make up my own character names but that turned out to be to much work. Now I rip off NPC names like the lazy bastard that I am.

Oh, I'd say my name really is old, and cliche, and novelty, but when I first tried to get it I was really surprised it wasn't taken (Sue Aside). Its probably up there among Mike Crotch and other dumb name words. Guess I mainly took it because it was actually available?

I really, really wanted Richard Cranium :/
Anyways, names don't effect you or game play so who cares what people name their characters after? Personally though I don't like ones with X's and O's in em'

Ditto that.
Wtb Rogaine - my bald headed monk
Fungus Amongus - necro
Kurzik Zen Zaishen - kurzick "sensation"
Good novelty names give me a laugh, knock offs and lazy names often are chosen by immature players.

If you're not in the UK you probably won't get this, but I saw Des Lynam once. I stalked him like a groupie around Lion's Arch.
If I'd thought of it at the time I would have asked 'him' to customise something for me.

It's an online video game...Why else wouldn't put novelty names in? xD . Then again I just don't like the look of those kinda names. I like using unique ones that represent myself.

Novelty names are fun, as are names stolen from pop culture, as long as they have relevance to the game character in some way.
But I can't stand those unimaginative 'X Obviously Misspelled Name Here X'
variations.
My tiny blonde femsin is 'Le Petite Mort'. (The Little Death, also a French expression for orgasm)
My PvP slot is 'One More Character', which coincidentaly is what the naming screen tells you when you type it in.
I used to have a male mes named 'Nom De Plume'. (Assumed Name)
My femwar survivor is named 'Jiera Amzinas'. (Life Eternal)
I also have several characters named after characters from the Discworld novels.
